Hungry & Anxious

When I’m feeling anxious, food is the last thing on my mind. In fact, on the day of my flights, I have trouble focusing on anything that isn’t my flight. As much as I love seeing the world, the anxiety I feel can sometimes take away from the overall positive experience. In my research, I have come to find that certain foods can help with my anxiety, and so, I am excited to share my findings with you!

On the days leading up to my flights, I stock up on omega 3-fatty acids, probiotics, antioxidants, magnesium, tryptophan, B Vitamins, and Herbal Teas.

Caffeine is NOT an option. Stay away from soda/pop and coffee. Sugar is fun, because it can get us hyped up, but the crash isn’t worth it. My preferences include water, chamomile tea and ginger-ale. The water is a cleanser, the tea is a sleeping aid, and the ginger-ale is a comforter. As a child when I felt ill, my mom would give me ginger-ale, and I’d feel better. I guess I still see it as something that will make me feel better when I’m feeling a kind of discomfort. Give these a try and let me know how it goes.

Stay away from sugary snacks! Again, a sugar crash is not something you need when you’re feeling anxious. Walnuts, yogurt, almonds, hard boiled eggs, and any kind of citrus (oranges, nectarines, etc.) are my go to snacks! These healthier alternatives are packed with probiotics, magnesium, and omega-3, which assist in eliminating anxious feelings. It’s important to snack well; try not to rely on large meals only.

For my carnivores, turkey (tryptophan) and beef (vitamin b-12) are good options. Otherwise, load up on foods like carrots, kale, spinach, squash, red peppers and avocado, which belong to the antioxidant’s family.  Have you ever had a panic attack? I have, and they’re not fun. My body gets really hot and my eyesight goes blurry. My head starts to feel heavy and my breathing pattern gets thrown off. When your body experiences an excessive amount of stress, it goes into panic. With the right foods, your body can stay balanced. From my experience, greens calm me and get my mind on the right track.

Final Thoughts

I am not a doctor. I’m just someone who has found a sort of relief from certain foods. If you’re like me, you’re desperate to see the world in peace, but you struggle to be brave, adventurous, and courageous. We’re on this journey together.
